Bloomfield Road is the transformation of a prime corner-plot site to provide a high-quality piece of architecture that responds to its context by acting as a ‘bookend’, while setting a precedent for future local developments.
The project offers flexible commercial spaces and a of mix of high-quality residential accommodation – all dual aspect and designed to best practice standards – with private amenity space and generous roof-top gardens, encouraging sustainable living and enhancing local biodiversity.
Contending with a long, narrow and sloping site, the façades are arranged in a hit-and-miss rhythm of staggered openings to help break down the visual impact of the building. Repetition is a deliberate design driver to simplify construction and reduce build timeframes. Robust and low maintenance materials have been selected for cost consideration while standard ‘off the shelf’ components are utilised to reduce construction/ material waste. A limited material palette also allows the building to sit more comfortably against its backdrop, forming a better relationship with local Victorian streetscape as well as the wider regenerative context.
