Fairfield Park
Fairfield Park is an exercise in modernisation, driven by a desire to rethink how a family home can respond to evolving patterns of living. The project combines a partial new-build with a full refurbishment, using adaptability and spatial clarity as its guiding principles.
The existing house was conceived as a collection of discrete rooms — a dense, labyrinthine plan that obscured relationships between formal and informal spaces.
Our response was to rationalise the layout and establish a clear spatial hierarchy, aligning the home with contemporary family life. Flexibility is embedded through the use of internal moveable walls, allowing spaces to adapt as family life changes.
Anchoring this approach is a single-storey extension spanning the full width of the house, conceived as the social heart of the home. Full-height glazing introduces lightness and visual permeability, while curved corners and an exposed timber structure soften the architecture and create a tactile counterpoint — forming a strong yet nuanced connection back to the original building.
